Consultation Experts Working Group in EC.

In 2012 the Erasmus Programme celebrates the 25th anniversary and experts discuss the future of the programme and the proposal of the European Commission (EC) creating “Erasmus for All”. Experts of the EC are aware of the importance of creating quality education area for 2014-2020 and thus the need to discuss the future plan with national agencies, universities, student organizations and other social partners and with students that participate in the Erasmus Programme.

On the 27 April, 2012 the Erasmus Team of the EC consulted with an Expert Group, composed of representatives from different areas regarding international mobility in higher education in the “Erasmus for All” Programme. It is a pleasure that the EC has also invited students and representatives of Erasmus Student Network as partners to the discussion. We – students and ESN members - realize the potential and the importance of the proposal; during the meeting we shared the problems of mobility from the students’ perspective and defended the rights of more than 11 million students in the EU.

National agencies of France, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Austria and others joined the Consulting Meeting along with delegates from universities and Erasmus Ambassadors.

The meeting was held in an active and perspective speed. Vanessa Debiais-Saiton, the leader of the Erasmus Team, introduced the agenda of the day in the morning part; and individual participants had an opportunity to get to know each other better for further and more effective discussions.

The afternoon was filled with the presentation of the EC proposal and further discussions. We were divided into four groups, where we discussed various topics as the Erasmus Charter, cooperation of universities, staff mobility, networking, and numerous other issues. Consequently, we chose four issues that we considered the most important and devoted more time to them and their implementation into further mobility.

The final part of the meeting consisted of evaluation of the meeting. Erasmus Student Network evaluates this meeting in a positive manner and is delighted that the EC has invited our network to the expert group. Our network cares about the development of the education area in the EU, because the current education system has changed student lives in a considerable way. We have a desire to continue developing and supporting mobility in higher education and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme.

Four members of the Erasmus Student Network participated in the Expert Group: Tania Berman (Erasmus Student Network), Madara Apsalone (Erasmus Student Ambassador of Latvia), Joachim Wyssling (CAMPUS Europae) and Mirko Hajnos (ESN Slovakia). Another former ESN member Daphne Scherer joined us from the EC Erasmus Team.
