SocialErasmus: Hard life of a student – or discover the world in one day

Waking up is harder and harder each day, but students are used to sleepless nights and a desire for a rest. However today I did not mind lack of sleep as we spent the day preparing for a big project. You have probably heard about Erasmus program already. And we are even better, we are SocialErasmus.

At eight o’clock with a typical twenty-minute delay, group of tired people met outside to prepare a van for a big ride in Banska Bystrica. While we were loading our car with paints, papers, balls and some leaflets, we spent the time joking about the difficult life of students, especially of the foreign Erasmus students. If cleaning ladies did not have a day off today, they would be probably complaining about the cleanliness of our rooms and they would mention good old times when only native students lived in dormitories who would not leave so much much garbage in trashbins during weekends – as they would travel home for these two days. Big change came with arrival of young people from different countries, for who the dormitory became their home as the way for a good homemade meal would be too long. So now they are here, maybe little more energetic than the others, but the more enthusiastic about new life and with rage for getting to know new country and its culture. Since they are here, the atmosphere uproar and every day became special. And today it was a really big surprise.

SEBB1

A group of Erasmus students decided to go to the town centre to use this free warm day for vitalizing the town with their presence; and to acknowledge the children about their opportunities to study abroad one day when they will go to a university. Students of Matej Bel University met downtown and prepared for children various knowledge and sport disciplines in which they practiced their English language and compared their strength with students from England, Czech Republic, Poland and Turkey. These games attracted many families that walked down the city centre and also a group of children visiting the town during a summer camp. Alenka, Bartek, Dominikas, Ivanka, Justyna, Lenka, Merve, Paulina a Veronika ended up these activities with a common picture that will be a surprise for all students in Europe in a few days. The reason is, that such activities are not taking place only in Slovakia this week, but in all European countries under the name SocialErasmus week. This week is devoted not only to activities with children but also charity collections and activities aimed to clean and protect the environment. If you want to know more about more projects in Slovakia, go to erasmusweek.esn.sk and if it interests you, don’t hesitate to join activities with Erasmus students next year.
