Erasmus Week 2012

Date:
07/05/2012 - 10:00 - 11/05/2012 - 04:00
Erasmus exchange and placements celebrate 25 years. To commemorate this anniversary, Erasmus Student Network Slovakia in cooperation with Slovak Academic Association for International Cooperation decided to organize together an Erasmus Week. During this Erasmus Week, there are various activities being planned in several cities around Slovakia, being organised by Slovak and international students.

Programme Erasmus (European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) began in 1987. This programme was initiated by European Commision in order to enable students to study and work beyond the borders of their home countries. More than 4000 HEI’s from 34 countries are involved in the programme. Every year more than 200 000 students spend their period abroad, lasting from 3 to 10 months.

ESN Slovakia (Erasmus Student Network Slovakia) is a non-profit students organisation, which represents interests of international students on 16 HEI’s of 7 cities in Slovakia. ESN offers space for trans-cultural understanding and self-development under main principle “Students helping students!”. Their aim is to work for all students spending part or whole period of their studies at HEI’s in Slovakia.

ES Slovakia national project Erasmus Tour de Slovensko, as a part of all-european 25th  anniversary celebrations of the Erasmus Programme will take place from 7th-11th of May in five cities of Slovakia being them Prešov, Banská Bystrica, Nitra, Bratislava and Košice.

Main goal of this project is to introduce and explain the Erasmus Programme not only to other students, but to public as well, with special focus on integration of slovak youth in Europe. Increased cooperation amongst youth, intercultural understanding, tolerance and fighting against racism are the points.

Opening ceremony of Erasmus Tour de Slovensko takes place on University of Prešov in the city of Prešov on 7th of May from 10am in presence of many slovak and international guests. The final “Happy Birthday Erasmus” party takes place on 11th of May in Košice. This celebration brings together students from all around Slovakia. There are different activities as part of Erasmus Tour being planned in each of the cities just like workshops, photo exhibition and Panel Discussions on broad topics. You will find sports events and tastes of international cuisine there, as well.

Together with Erasmus Tour de Slovensko, there will be parallel activities as part of SocialErasmus , an international project which aims to involve international students take part voluntary activities of educational and charitable character for the local community.

Erasmus Week offers young people possibility to communicate with international students through interactive tools aimed to deepen their language competences, broaden knowledge of other cultures and overcome stereotypes.
